Hedgehogs currently at the rescue:

Biography: Elizabeth has been in at least 3 homes that we know of in her short life. We "think" she is a pet store hedgehog but can not be sure of that and have very few details on her life. What we do know is that a girl purchased her off of someone on Petfinder.com. That girl never socialized her and eventually a friend took the hedgehog in. This owner then put her up for adoption on CL. I saw her listed and purchased her for 100.00 in the hopes of helping this little girl become adoptable and find a stable and experienced home.
Elizabeth had a vet check and has a clean bill of health. She is extremely shy and has not been socialized properly. We are working with her on a daily basis and have seen great improvement in the short time we have had her (about 3 wks). She will now unball but still remains very nervous, shy and scared which is demonstrated by many huffing, puffing and ticking noises along with some jumping and balling up. She does not appear to be a biter.
At this time, Elizabeth is not ready for adoption but we are hopeful that placement may be possible in a few months but only to an experienced home. Elizabeth has had a rough start and may never be overly friendly thus she needs someone who understands "grumpy hedgehogs" and is willing to continue work with her.

Elizabeth has been with us for several months now. She is still extremely grumpy but has shown some improvement in relating to her caregiver. Elizabeth is now up for adoption but will only be adopted to an experienced home as she will need an understanding owner who is willing to continue to work with her and has a good understanding of her behavioral issues.
